Tuesday July 16th proved to be a busy day for East Brandywine Volunteers.

The day started with a QRS run to Hopewell United Methodist Church for a syncopal episode in the cemetery.

Mid-morning volunteers from East Brandywine Fire Company, Glen Moore Fire Company, and the Downingtown Fire Department were dispatched to gas leak at the Dairy Queen. Upon arrival a strong odor of gas was detected in multiple stores in the complex which led to an immediate evacuation. It was determined that work crews were inappropriately using gasoline to clean the roof and the fumes were drawn in by the air handling systems in each business. Multiple stores were ventilated and the evacuation was lifted.

Later in the day East Brandywine Fire Company, Glen Moore Fire Company, and Westwood Ambulance were dispatched to Rt.322 and Rt. 82 for an auto-accident. While enroute Chester County Fire Radio alerted responding units that Police were on location an were upgrading to serious with entrapment. Additionally the Police requested more ambulances as a result of multiple patients. Ambulances out of Honey Brook were alerted. One patient required extrication from the car, and two patients were transported to local hospitals for care. Our thoughts and prayers are with both the victims of the accident.

The evening ending with a reported building fire at Joe Burns Beverage as a resulted of an apparent lighting strike. Captain 49 was on Station when a walk-in reported a fire at the beverage store which is just over the hill from the Fire Station. Simultaneously the call was being dispatched. Captain 49 arrived on scene and held the response to Station 48 and 49. He noted the fire was contained with a smoke condition and there was a need to check for extension. The situation was put under control shortly after arrival.
