T3 Training: Freedom Village

Wednesday night, before preparing for the snow storm, 28 of your EBFC volunteers gathered to learn about one of the most significant life safety hazards in our district. The Freedom Village at Brandywine Senior Living Community, housing over 600 residents, has levels of care from Independent and Assisted Living through Alzheimer's and Hospice units.

The first of two sessions led by Firefighter Ed Skrzat, who joined us a couple of years ago with extensive firefighting experience with the Montgomery Township Fire Department (Montgomery County, PA) as well as professional risk and loss prevention background, our members learned about the individual structures of the complex, the fire suppression systems and the potential hazards in each location.

This information will help re-formulate our pre-incident planning if an incident were to happen there again. In the near future we will also work with our neighboring companies, who would respond to assist, to familiarize them with the structures and what tasks they may need to be completed.

Next week we will conclude the series with an onsite visit of the complex.
