On Friday March 30th East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers responded to two separate auto-accidents both which had tragic outcomes. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of these accidents and their families during this Easter Holiday.

The initial accident occurred on Route 322 in the area of Clearview Drive around 12:30 in the afternoon. Chief 49 arrived on-scene shortly after dispatch and reported one patient heavily trapped and requested a rapid extrication based on the patients degree of injury. Within three minutes the patient was removed from the vehicle and Fire and EMS personnel instituted resuscitative efforts. The patient was emergently transported to a local hospital by MICU 46 where unfortunately he died as a result of his injuries.

Route 322 was closed for an extended period of time to allow an opportunity for the East Brandywine Police Department and the Chester County Accident Reconstruction team to investigate the cause of the accident.

Later that evening around 7:47 pm our volunteers responded to the 600 block of Reeceville Road for another auto-accident with reported entrapment involving fire. West Brandywine Police Department, Brandywine Hosptial Medic 93 and Ambulance 144 were also dispatched.

The police arrived and confirmed the report. Chief 49 and Deputy 49 arrived shortly after dispatch in conjunction with 4 other East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers. These volunteers approached the burning car and were able to free the unconscious victim from the vehicle with the assistance of the police. Thanks to nearby residents and Paramedic Dave High who assisted with a fire extinguisher to keep flames at bay while fire and police extricated the victim together.

Resuscitation of the patient was immediately started and continued on scene with the assistance of Medic 93 until Ambulance 144’s arrival. The patient was quickly transported to a local Hospital where unfortunately she did succumb to her injuries.

The roadway was closed for several hours while police investigators processed the scene.

The Officers and Members of East Brandywine Fire Company would like to thank all of the residents and passerby's who offered assistance at both accident scenes! Your efforts were remarkably heroic.

Additionally we would like to thank and acknowledge all of the Police, EMS personnel and Fire Police Officers who provided us assistance.

Lastly thank-you to Flings Towing who provided services at both accident scenes.
