On Thursday morning January 31st the East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers were dispatched to 322 & Swinehart Rd for the accident with injuries.

Lt. 49 (Needles) was on location in less than a minute and reported two vehicles blocking the roadway. After further investigation he determined the need for a 2nd Ambulance to the scene along with a Medic. Lt. 49 also relayed to Deputy 49 (Edwards) that one vehicle would need a door removed to safely extricate the occupant due to past medical history. Deputy 49 requested the upgrade to entrapment.

Deputy 49 arrived and assumed 322 command. Engines 49-1 and 49-2 made the response and on arrival went to work removing the driver side door on the one vehicle while EMS from 144 (Westwood) attended to the driver of the other vehicle. Ambulance 41 (Coatesville) arrived just as the volunteers from East Brandywine were done removing the driver side door and EMS was able to safely remove the driver.

Both involved parties were transported to local hospitals by EMS.

While the crews from Engine 49-1 and 49-2 were cleaning up the debris, our members noticed a women walking along side the roadway towards the accident scene with a dog in her arms. When she got to the scene she explained she was trying to get her dog to Doggie Day Care about a half mile down the road. Our members quickly offered assistance and walked the dog the rest of the way so that the women could get back to her warm car since temperatures were hovering around 0 degrees.

Once the cars were removed by Flings Towing the roadway was reopened and crews cleared the scene.
