Just before 5am this morning members of East Brandywine Fire Company and close friends and family boarded a bus bound for Brooklyn and the starting line for the 2019 Tunnel To Towers 5k Run.

As best described by the Stephen Siller Foundation: the event symbolizes FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller’s final footsteps from the foot of the Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers, and pays homage to the 343 FDNY firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Proceeds from the event support the Foundation’s programs, including those benefitting first responders and catastrophically injured service members.

This is the third year EBFC has participated in this event. All members who have experienced it have found it to be a remarkably moving event that honors the sacrifices made on 9/11 and one that unites and uplifts military personnel and first responders from across the country and from overseas. The number of participants only grows bigger each year.

East Brandywine Fire Company would like to thank The Krapf Group (www.krapfbus.com) for donating a bus and driver to take participants from our station to NYC and back. The Krapf family has been extremely generous to us for several years for this event – it would simply not be possible without their support! Team shirts were donated this year by Latitude Information Security (www.latitudeinfosec.com).
