The past several days have been steady for the volunteers of East Brandywine Fire Company and the evening of December 20th was no different. Just after 7pm the company was dispatched to a residence on Prizer Ct in Applecross for an odor investigation. Engine 49-2 and Ladder 49 responded and investigated an odor in the residence. After checking the entire house it was determined to be burnt food and the company cleared the scene.

A few hours later just before 10:30pm the company was dispatched to the 900blk of Horseshoe Pike for a chicken coop fire. Assistant 49 arrived first and confirmed a small fire in a chicken coop to the rear of the residence. Engines 49-2 and 49-5 made the response and upon arrival stretched a 400' 1 3/4 handline to the rear of the residence. Crews used hooks to remove some of the burning material and then wet down the entire coop to make sure it was completely extinguished. The homeowners luckily were able to remove the chickens before our arrival and none were hurt.

Crews were clear a short time later and returned to station to clean up the equipment and get back into service.
