On Wednesday 6/24/2020 approx. 24 members attended our first training in several weeks due to the COVID-19 situation. Members have been doing online training and Zoom training for the past several weeks but have not been doing any training at the station in an effort to keep all of our members safe and keep close interaction together limited to emergencies responses only.

Everyone was eager to get back into the swing of things and start in person training again. The officers have been working together over the past several weeks and months designing training for the members to help them hone their skills but to still limit how many members are in one area at a time just to be safe.

For our first night back crews split up into two groups. One group went to the Township Building and practiced hydrant operations with our junior members. Since junior firefighters are limited to what they can do on a fireground this is a critical skill for them to learn and practice.

The second group traveled to the parking lot of North Brandywine Middle School with Engine 49-5 and Ladder 49. This group practiced placing ground ladders, laying supply line from Engine 49-5 and operating the ladder pipe on Ladder 49.

What our crews didn't know was that the officers had one other training set up for them as a little surprise. Captain 49 remained back at the station in our rear training area and started a car fire with one of our training vehicles that was donated to us. Once he was ready he called one truck at a time back to the station to practice extinguishing the car fire. Crews arrived back at the station and stretched a handline and knocked down the fire. Once one group was done the fire was started again and another crew came. 3 different groups got to extinguish the car fire and after the 3rd was done the car was fully extinguished.
