On Monday night June 29th at 11:38pm East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Downingtown Fire Company along with several other fire companies on a working house fire in the 100blk of Lake Dr in Downingtown Borough.

Initial reports were of equipment on fire in the attached garage with flames spreading to the home.

MICU 46-1 arrived first and reported a one story single family dwelling fire and smoke showing from the residence and recommended a working fire dispatch. At that time the call was upgraded to a working fire bringing additional units to the scene to assist.

Assistant 46 arrived and confirmed a working fire. Tower 45 (Alert Fire Company) was the first arriving apparatus on scene and took a position in the front of the residence and stretched an 1 3/4 handline to start knocking the fire in the attached garage. Engine 46-2 arrived next and laid in from the hydrant and also stretched a secondary 1 3/4 handline and went to the inside of the residence.

Engine 47-2 and Engine 49-2 arrived next and crews went inside to assist. The crew from EBFC split and did a search of the residence for any occupants while the remainder of the crew began to pull ceiling to open up and look for any hidden areas of fire. The fire had progressed at that point and made it to the inside of the residence in the ceiling area as well as the second floor bedroom.

Crews worked well together and had the fire under control in less than 40 minutes. Crews remained on scene for several hours checking for any extension and wetting down hot spots. Once all the tools and equipment were cleaned up and put back together crews from EBFC were made available.

A total of 18 members responded to this incident.
