On Friday August 21st at 8:58pm Station 49, 35 (Wagontown), 48 (Glen Moore), Engine 38 (Thorndale), Engine 45 (Alert), Engine 44 (Westwood), RIT 47 (Lionville) and MICU144 (Westwood) were dispatched to the 100blk of Swinehart Rd in West Brandywine for a possible dwelling fire.

Chief 49 made the response and was notified by the Chester County 911 Center that the caller was reporting flames visible possibly from a house in the area of the corn field. While enroute to the scene Chief 49 received a call stating it appeared to be a working fire. With that information the Chief requested the working fire dispatch and the 1st Alarm Tanker Task Force due to a lack of hydrants in this area.

Chief 49 arrived and confirmed the incident was to the rear of a very long gravel driveway. Once the Chief was able to make it down the driveway it was discovered that the fire was actually a large pile of debris on fire inside of an old silo. At that time the response was held to just the units from 49. Engine 49-5 arrived with a crew of 6 and stretched an 1 3/4 handline to extinguish the fire.

Engines 49-5, 49-2, 49-1, Ladder 49 all made the response and crews were on scene for under 30 minutes.
