On Tuesday evening just after 9pm the box alarm for the 1100blk of Horseshoe Pike in East Brandywine was dispatched for the house fire with entrapment. Companies on the dispatch along with East Brandywine were 38 (Thorndale), 45 (Alert), Engine 76 (VA Hospital), Engine 46 (Minquas), Engine 39 (West Bradford), Engine 48-5 (Glen Moore), RIT 33 (Honey Brook) and MICU 244-1 (Westwood).

Chief and Assistant 49 both went enroute shortly after dispatch and were advised by the 911 Center that they were getting multiple calls and an off duty firefighter was on scene confirming entrapment to the rear of the house.

Assistant 49 arrived first with a 3 story residential with fire showing and requested the working fire dispatch. At that time Police and Bystanders were able to remove the trapped occupant. Chief 49 arrived on location and established Horseshoe Pike Command.

Engine 49-2 made the response 4 minutes after dispatch and arrived on scene and stretched an 1 3/4 handline to the rear. Engine 49-5 arrived quickly after and also stretched an 1 3/4 handline to the rear and began to assist crews from Engine 49-2. Several members also began throwing ground ladders around the residence. Rescue 49 arrived and layed out from Engine 49-2 to the hydrant to supply the engine with water. A 5 inch line was also stretched from Engine 49-2 to Engine 49-5. A total of five 1 3/4 handlines were deployed all coming off either 49-2 or 49-5

The crews from 49 made a fast and aggressive attack on the fire and were able to knock the flames down quickly in the residence. Crews began to arrive from the mutual aid companies to assist. The fire was under control quickly and Command began to release crews from the scene.

EBFC remained on scene for several hours while the fire marshals office was on scene. Once the scene was released by the fire marshals crews began overhaul and cleanup of the equipment.

In all 31 volunteers from East Brandywine responded to the call.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the occupants of this residence.
