House Fire on Horseshoe Pike in West Brandywine Twp

By East Brandywine Fire Company
December 11, 2020

At 3:19am on Friday, December 11th East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to the 1600blk of Horseshoe Pike for a reported chimney fire. Within seconds of that dispatch, the call was upgraded to a house fire adding additional units. The initial report was of fire in the chimney that was now in the walls with smoke in the house.

Chief 49 arrived and after investigating confirmed he had smoke on the second floor and fire in the walls and requested the working fire dispatch. Engine 49-2 arrived and dropped a 5-inch line at the end of the driveway and pulled up as far as possible in the driveway to leave room for Ladder 49. Upon the arrival of the Ladder, they were able to back into the driveway to allow them to have access to the roof.

The crew from Engine 49-2 stretched an 1 3/4 handline into the residence and began to open up on the second floor to expose the fire in the wall and floor area. Ladder 49's crew put the aerial to the roof and went up to check the chimney and see if there was any extension into the roofline. While all of this was being done crews from our mutual aid companies were assisting with those tasks as well as opening up the outside of the house around the chimney looking for hidden pockets of fire.

The fire was placed under control at 4:07am by Chief 49. Crews from 49 remained on scene until 5:45am cleaning up and performing overhaul of the residence.

We would like to thank all of our mutual aid companies that responded to the incident, Honey Brook Fire Company, Thorndale Fire Company, Glenmoore Fire Company, VA Hospital of Coatesville Fire Dept, Wagontown Fire Company, Lionville Fire Company, West Whiteland Fire Company, Modena Fire Company, Chester County Fire Marshals, Westwood EMS as well as all the Fire Police that responded to help close down the roadway. Also to the West Brandywine Police and Belfor for the assistance as well.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.
