On Wednesday night January 13th at 7:11 pm, EBFC was dispatched along with several other departments to assist Thorndale Fire Company on a reported house fire in the Barley Sheaf Farms section of Caln Township.

6 volunteers from EBFC were on station staffing the apparatus and responded immediately in Engine 49-5. Numerous other volunteers responded to the station and Ladder, Rescue, and Engine 49-2 also made the response a short time later.

Deputy 38 from Thorndale Fire Company arrived and reported a smoke condition in the house. Engine 38 arrived and stretched a 1 3/4 handling to the front door while Rescue 38 laid a supply line into the scene from the hydrant. Crews from Engine 76 (VA Hospital) and 49-5 were also arriving on the scene and assisted with Engine 38.

Crews found smoke throughout the house and were told by a contractor on site that they had a dehumidifier running in a crawl space under the house and believe it had caught on fire. The contractor used a fire extinguisher on it prior to the fire department's arrival. Crews opened the floor to check for any extension and used fans to clear the smoke from the residence. After assisting with clean up and re-packing hose crews from 49 were made available and cleared the scene.
