On Tuesday evening around 8pm Downingtown Fire Department along with multiple other area companies were dispatched to a commerical building fire at Champion Recycling in the 500 block of Trestle Place in East Caln. When units arrived they encountered smoke in the area and had to force entry into the complex. Once crews made it inside they found a fire involving construction waste. As crews from multiple companies began operating on scene and it was obvious that crews would be on scene for a long time, companies began to be relocated to cover the area. Ladder 49 was dispatched to cover Downingtown from Minquas Fire Company. Shortly after arriving at Station 46, Command requested the cover companies to respond to the scene to assist. Ladder 49 arrived and a crew was sent inside to take over a handline to wet down the area while large equipment moved the construction material. The crew from the Ladder was on scene for approx. 30 minutes before returning. |
