By East Brandywine Fire Company
May 13, 2021

Thursday night May 13th just after 8 pm, EBFC was dispatched to the 400blk of Dilworth Rd for an appliance fire reported to be an oven. Within seconds of the initial dispatch, the Chester County 911 Center received further information from the caller reporting the fire appeared to be spreading and upgraded the assignment to a house fire. This dispatches additional companies to assist EBFC.

The upgraded assignment consisted of Company 49, 38 (Thorndale) for Engine & Rescue, Engine 76 (VA Hospital), Engine 45 (Alert), Engine 46 (Minquas), Engine 39 (West Bradford), Engine 47 (Lionville), RIT 33 (Honey Brook) and MICU 144

Chief, Assistant, Battalion, Captain 49, Engine 49-2, Engine 49-5, and Ladder 49 were all on the road quickly after dispatch. Assistant 49 arrived first and initially had nothing showing. Upon investigation, he found that he had a kitchen fire well off inside the residence. At that time Chief 49 requested the working fire dispatch which added Station 6 (West Whiteland) for an Engine, Air 46, and the Fire Marshals

Chief 49 arrived and assumed Command and Battalion 49 took Operations. Engine 49-2 arrived and laid approx. 1200ft of 5 inch supply line from the street to the residence. Ladder 49 followed them into the driveway and put themselves in a position to get the aerial to the roof. Engine 49-5 arrived and hooked up to the 5 inch supply line at the end of the driveway and prepared to send water to the scene if needed.

The crew from Engine 49-2 worked quickly and stretched a 1 3/4 handline into the residence and began to make a knock on the fire while a second line was waiting at the door if needed. Another group of members also performed searches of the residence for any occupants which turned out to be negative. Within minutes of arrival, the crew of Engine 49-2 had the fire under control. As some of the mutual aid companies began to arrive the assignment was held to just 49 and 76 per Chief 49.

Crews remained on the scene for over an hour clearing the residence of smoke and performing overhaul of the kitchen area. Fire Marshals from Chester County were also on scene.

Thank you to the crew from Engine 47-2 (Lionville) for covering our local while we operated on the scene.
