On Thursday morning shortly after 11am, East Brandywine volunteers along with EMS from Westwood were dispatched to Manor Rd just south of Hibernia Rd for an auto accident reported with entrapment.

Initial reports were of a single vehicle well off the roadway into the trees with one person trapped. Deputy 49 arrived on location and confirmed a vehicle approx. 200ft off the roadway with a single occupant trapped. Rescue 49 and QRS 49 arrived and immediately began to work on extrication efforts while EMS tended to the the occupant. Crews had to carry multiple tools along with cribbing and other items needed into the wooded area to assist with the extrication.

Members removed both the doors on the driver side of the vehicle along with the "B" post to allow easier access to the patient. Due to the severity of the incident a helicopter was placed on standby and eventually requested to the scene. Shortly after the helicopter was requested to the scene it was decided to transport the patient by ground to Brandywine Hospital and have the helicopter meet them there.

Crews from EBFC remained on scene for approx. 1 hour before clearing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this incident.
