Assist to West Whiteland on Working Fire

East Brandywine volunteers were dispatched at 10:30am on Tuesday morning to assist the West Whiteland Fire Company on a reported house fire at Bartlett Ave & Crest Ave. Initial reports were of a grease fire in the kitchen that was not contained.

Within seconds an ambulance driving past the scene going to another call and a firefighter both reported a working fire with heavy fire showing from the building which ended up being several apartments.

Engine 6-1 responded and laid a supply line to the scene from the front of their firehouse and went into service with multiple handlines. Engine 56, Ladder 6, Tower 47, Engine 47-2, Engine 6-2, Engine 51 and Engine 49-2 all arrived not long after and assisted crews with fire suppression and roof operations. There was also a report of a subject and his dog missing, as crews were beginning to search for that occupant he was found to be outside with his dog and safe.

Crews had multiple handlines in service and had the fire under control at 11:01am. Firefighters from 6, 47, 56 and 49 remained on scene for approx. 2 hours performing overhaul. Engine 49-2 was also made available on scene if needed to respond to any other emergencies in the area.
