Wednesday morning at 11:19am, the company was dispatched to a residence in the 2700 block of Manor Rd in West Brandywine for an appliance. Initial reports were of an oil burner that backfired and the house was filling with smoke.

Engine 49-2 arrived with smoke showing from the residence and pulled an 1 3/4 handline to the front door. As the crew from Engine 49-2 began to search for the source of the smoke, Ladder 49 and Engine 49-5 arrived simultaneously. The ladder took position in the front while Engine 49-5 prepared to reverse lay to the nearest hydrant if needed.

Crews were able to isolate the source of the smoke to a small fire in the heating unit. The unit was secured and crews utilized fans to clear the residence of smoke.
