At 9:40 p.m. on Saturday night, the East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched as the Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) to assist the Lionville Fire Company on a reported house fire in the 500 block of Ferncastle Drive, Uwchlan Township.

The initial 9-1-1 call indicated there was a fire in the basement of the residence. West Whiteland Fire Company, Minquas Fire Company, and Ludwigs Corner Fire Company were also dispatched on the first alarm assignment.

While fire units were en route, officers from the Uwchlan Township Police Department arrived on location and confirmed there was an active fire in the basement.

Engine 47-2 (Lionville) arrived on scene as the first-due engine with nothing showing from a two-story single-family dwelling. Upon further investigation, crews encountered a smoke condition in the basement. A 1.75-inch hoseline was quickly stretched to the basement, where the fire was located and brought under control shortly after.

East Brandywine’s Engine 49-2, Rescue 49, and Assistant 49 responded and stood by on scene in the RIT role, ready to assist if needed, until being cleared by command.
