On Friday night, July 4th at 11:05 PM, East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to assist the Downingtown Fire Department with a reported house fire in the 300 block of Mary Street. Initial reports indicated a shed on fire with possible extension into the end of a row of homes.

Within moments, multiple units were responding, including Engine 45, Tower 45, Engine 46, Engine 49-5, Engine 41, Engine 38, and Assistant 45. A firefighter arrived on scene quickly and reported visible fire on the roof. Assistant 45 arrived in under a minute and confirmed that a shed located between two rows of homes was fully involved, with extension into one of the row homes. He immediately requested the Working Fire Dispatch.

East Brandywine's Engine 49-5 was directed to approach from Ashton Drive and supply water to Engine 45, while also functioning as the nurse tanker for incoming units. Additional responding units from East Brandywine included Engine 49-2 and Utility 49-1.
Upon arrival, EBFC personnel were assigned various critical tasks. Several volunteers accessed the roof to assist with ventilation operations, while others worked to check nearby exposures for fire spread. Two members also ensured the affected building was laddered on all four sides, enhancing firefighter safety and access.

At 11:27 PM, a second alarm was requested as crews battled fire spreading into the second and third-floor walls. Three attack lines were placed in service during the height of the operation. After over an hour of firefighting, the fire was placed under control at 12:04 AM.
East Brandywine volunteers remained on scene to assist with overhaul and cleanup efforts. During the incident, Engine 33-5 from Honey Brook Fire Company was relocated to Station 49 to provide coverage for the East Brandywine local.

In total, 13 volunteers from East Brandywine Fire Company responded to the call. Our thoughts are with the families impacted by this fire, and we commend all agencies involved for their swift and coordinated efforts.
