Engine 49-2 and Engine 49-5 responded to a lawn mower fire in the 200 block of Jefferis Road in East Brandywine Township. Crews deployed a 1¾" handline to the rear of the home and quickly knocked down the fire. Thankfully, there were no exposure issues to the residence — only a small shed nearby, which sustained no damage.

Let equipment cool before refueling. Never add gas to a hot engine.
Clean off debris. Dry grass, leaves, and mulch can collect around the engine and muffler, creating an easy ignition source.
Inspect for fuel leaks. Check hoses, filters, and caps regularly.
Store equipment safely. Keep mowers and fuel containers in a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources.
Perform end-of-season maintenance. Before storing your mower for winter, clean it thoroughly, remove excess fuel, and inspect wiring for damage.
