On Thursday February 27th , East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to assist Honey Brook Fire Company with a building fire at Custom Woodworking on Route 322. Additionally Glen Moore Fire Company and Twin Valley Fire Company were also due on the assignment.

Deputy 33 arrived on location and noted a smoke condition in the building with fire in a dust-collecting unit. Deputy 33 established Command and asked Chief 49 to assume Operations.

Hand lines were placed in service both from below and above the dust-collecting unit prior to opening the unit. Based on the potential hazards associated with dust explosions, crews were removed from the top of the unit until the situation became more manageable.

While the outside unit was being addressed interior crews evaluated all of the ductwork inside the building and checked for extension.

After the initial knock down the tedious task of removing the “vacuum like” bags from the unit was undertaken in conjunction with owner and mechanic.

Deputy 33 cleared all units around 9:30am. All of the personnel and Companies on the scene did an outstanding job, with this potentially very hazardous situation.
