On Wednesday April 9th East Brandywine Fire Company in conjunction with Glen Moore Fire Company were dispatched for a truck fire at the intersection of Rt. 82 and Rt. 322.

Assistant 49 arrived on the scene an encountered a truck in the process of dropping 20 large hay bales, which were on fire off the truck bed. Assistant 49 immediately requested the assistance of another tanker out of Honey Brook.

Unfortunately the driver of the truck was not aware that by dropping the bales where he did, it created an exposure risk with moderate winds and a building in close proximity.

Chief 49 arrived on location and assumed Rt. 322 command. The first Engine was directed to the exposure building, while the next due Engine was directed to the truck which was still on fire now West on Rt. 322.

Once the bales were knocked down a plan was put in place to relocate the bales to an adjacent field to open up the roadway more quickly with the impending rush hour. West Brandywine Township helped facilitate this by sending a loader to the scene.

The Line Officers of East Brandywine Fire Company would like to thank, Glen Moore, Honey Brook, Westwood Ambulance, West Brandywine Township Public Works Director Tom Ells, and the West Brandywine PD for their assistance
