Large Scale Family Reunification Exercise

By East Brandywine Fire Company
October 11, 2014

On Saturday October 11th, the Chester County Department of Emergency Services (CCDES), the Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU), Pope John Paul II Elementary School and several first response agencies including East Brandywine Fire Company conducted a family reunification exercise.

Family Reunification is a process to reunite children with their parents/guardians after an emergency or crisis has occurred. Although threats at Elementary Schools are difficult to think about they occur with a certain amount of regularity across the United States. It is imperative that first responders play an active role in all aspects of threat mitigation.

The faculty of Pope John Paul II Elementary School, the Emergency Management Team of West Brandywine Township, the CCDES, and CCIU have been spearheading the development of emergency response guidelines and conducting drills to validate and improve the outcomes.

The volunteers of East Brandywine Fire Company are happy to continue to be involved in proactive training that protects our Community that hopefully will never get used.

Special thanks to Chrissy DePaolantonio and Keith Simpkins from CCDES for organizing the exercise.
