On Wednesday night East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers responded to a reported fire at the China Moon restaurant. Additional companies on the assignment included the Downingtown Fire Department, Glen Moore Fire Company, as well as the Lionville Fire Company.

Police officers patrolling the area noticed smoke coming from the roof and were unclear if it was coming from a vent or not. Upon further inspection they saw flames coming from inside the building. Chief 49 was advised of the update by Chester County Fire Radio and he requested the working fire dispatch, particularly given the size of the commercial structure.

Prior to the arrival of the first due engine, the Police officers broke the glass front door and contained the fire which started in the kitchen area with extinguishers. Upon arrival of Engine 49-5 and Ladder 49, crews extinguished and removed the remaining debris and checked for extension.

Crews remained on-scene for about an hour while they were ventilating the building and the Fire Marshals performed their investigation. The local Health Department was also notified.
