The East Brandywine Fire Company is pleased to announce that we have received a $10,000 grant in order to help defer the costs of purchasing portable radios.

Take1 Insurance is partnering with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company to donate $10,000 to the East Brandywine Fire Company to fund new handheld radios.

The new handheld radios will enable emergency responders to better communicate with each other at the scene of an emergency. When first responders can clearly articulate instructions and commands, the community is better served.

“Effective communication is critical at the scene of an emergency. It helps save lives and property by enabling a more efficient and coordinated response,” said Chief John Edwards. “We are thankful for this grant from Take1 Insurance and Fireman’s Fund.”

Funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, this grant is part of a nationwide philanthropic program, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Founded in 1863 with a social mission to support the fire service, Fireman’s Fund today awards grants to fire service organizations for life-saving equipment, firefighter training and community education programs. Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to more than 2,100 different organizations totaling more than $31 million -- including $850,000 in Pennsylvania. Independent insurance agencies and brokers that sell Fireman’s Fund products, like Take1 Insurance, are able to direct these grants to support the fire service.

Through this program, Take1 Insurance has directed nearly $80,000 in grants to fire departments nationwide.

“Firefighters put themselves in harm’s way every day to serve others and deserve to have the best equipment available,” said Scott Carroll, Executive Vice President and Program Director of Take1 Insurance. “We are honored to support them with this grant for critical communication equipment.”
