October Fire Prevention Week: Open House and Community Activities Dates Announced

Fire Prevention week is upon us!

In 1920, President Woodrow Wilson issued the first National Fire Prevention Day proclamation, and since 1922, Fire Prevention Week has been observed on the Sunday through Saturday period in which October 9 falls.

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres.

The key message of this year's Fire Prevention Week campaign, October 4-10, is to install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement. Larger homes may need more alarms.

The volunteers of the East Brandywine Fire Company not only deliver high quality emergency service but are also committed to Community safety though education.

To that end, the following is a list of dates that we will be engaged in Community education and activities.

Please mark your calendars and make sure you stop by the Station on Wednesday October 14th from 6:30pm to 9pm for our Annual Fire Prevention Open House.
