On the evening of June 29th East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers continued their training series on ropes and rigging. Throughout the month of June each training session emphasized a different aspect of rope rescue. This evening the months training culminated with a scenario in which a construction worker fell nearly 60 feet at a job site.

At around 19:15 hours the Company was dispatched to a call just off of Bondsville Road in the area of East Reeceville Road. Captain 49 went en-route shortly after dispatch and was provided with updated information regarding the situation. Chester reported that a construction worker fell 60 feet in a remote location and was unresponsive.

Captain 49 arrived and established "Quarry Command" then Captain 49 proceeded to run the evolution as the Incident Commander. Upon arrival of all of the apparatus and personnel, Captain 49 began to delineate roles and responsibilities and establish a plan.

Personnel where divided into different groups and assigned a variety of tasks. The focus initially was placed on getting all of the equipment and personnel to the remote location. One established at the remote location, the goal was to get an EMS professional down to the patient to assess for injuries and provide reconnaissance.

A total of 4 rescuers went over the edge to work on packaging the patient. While the rescuers worked on preparing the patient for the ascent, other personnel worked on a haul line.

Ultimately the patient was safely transported back to the top of the hill.

All of the volunteers involved in the training session performed at an incredibly high level.

Special thanks to Training Officer Chris Keen for overseeing the training session.
