On Wednesday evening, July 20th East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers participated in 5 Minute Drill training. Thirty-three members participated in the session which was run by Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief, Captain and Lieutenants.

Within East Brandywine's system, the 5-minute drill is considered essential to the success of our operations during a working fire.

The 5-minute drill focuses on the roles and responsibilities of each responding Firefighter, Officer, and Apparatus during the first 5 minutes of a working building fire.

These responsibilities include the following:

Safe Apparatus Driving
Scene Size-Up / 360 Survey
Apparatus Placement
Accountability
Laying in and Establishing a Water Supply
Deploying Attack Line and a Back-up Line
Placement of Ground Ladders
Vertical / Horizontal Ventilation
Securing Utilities
Preparing for Ancillary Services – Lights, Salvage and Overhaul, etc.

The Officers for East Brandywine would like to recognize and thank the volunteers for their participation with weekly training. In addition the Line Officers would like to thank Brandywine Wallace Elementary School for the use of the building.
