On the evening of Wednesday August 24th, East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers participated in water supply operations training. This marks the start of a 3 week training series which highlights the importance of establishing a functional water supply.

This training session was facilitated by Chief John Edwards, Chief Engineer Bob Zynn, and Assistant Chief Engineer John Needles. Participants initially reviewed different aspects of water supply which included the following:

Differentiating between a pressurized water supply system and a static water supply system

Reviewed different types of static water supply systems to include both natural and man-made

Identified the essential equipment for water supply

Reviewed the principles of "lift"

Determined maximal "lift"

Following a short classroom session, participants engaged in different drafting scenarios. Personnel divided into two groups and Engine 49-1 and Engine 49-5 both drafted from different locations at different heights. Additionally, different appliances were used so participants become comfortable with both floating docks and barrel strainers.

Next week the focus will shift to porta-tank applications.

Thanks to all those who participated in this evenings training.
