On Friday September 2nd East Brandywine Fire Company placed into service a new QRS Unit to better serve the emergency medical needs of the Community. The new Ford F250 with an ESI SpaceKap replaces a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban.

East Brandywine Fire Company is one of the few Companies in Chester County that continues to provide this type of rapid response emergency medical service. According to EMS Director Cathie Rawlings "we are fortunate to have 22 volunteer EMT's, most of whom are also firefighters, we kept this in mind when creating the Unit". Rawlings said "with this multi-disciplinary experience we were able to program the new QRS to expand it capabilities beyond just basic life support".

EMS Lt. Greg Kohlmaier said the unit is now capable of performing the following functions:

Basic medical / trauma life support for adult and pediatric patients

Response to mass casualty incidents

Air monitoring

Hazard mitigation / spill control at auto-accidents

Traffic Control

Scene lighting

Rehabilitation on fire scenes

Forcible entry

Capable of hauling ATV 49

Lt. Kohlmaier added "the increased functionality of the Unit is particularly important during normal business hours when there are typically fewer volunteers to perform more functions".

The Officers and Members of East Brandywine Fire Company would like to thank the following people for their dedication and commitment to the design and build of the new QRS 49.
