While October's focus in primarily around fire prevention, East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers are also utilizing the month to focus on emergency medical care.

As discussed in previous articles the Company is fortunate to have 22 Emergency Medical Technicians, many whom have advanced degrees in healthcare. These EMT's provide a quick response medical service which often serves to improve patient outcomes.

According to Cathie Rawlings PHRN, Director of the EMS service "our focus is to provide the highest quality patient care available. Rawlings went on to say "within the last month alone, while working in collaboration with our BLS and ALS partners, two residents lives were saved, as a result of our interventions".

Special thanks to the following persons for their thoughtful and informative presentation:

Greg Kohlemaier EMT (QRS Lieutenant) - "Hypovolemic Shock / Control of Bleeding"

Leo Scaccia RN, NRP (Director Medic 93 Brandywine Hospital) - "Dealing with the Combative Patient"
