On Wednesday October 25th East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers participated in training which was focused on removal of victims from a building.

According to Training Officer Chris Keen, "this training is incredibly important when it comes to saving lives during a building fire".

Most people don't really think about the fact that an average human being weighs almost 140lbs. Imagine during your search of a fire building you come across and unconscious victim. It is essential you train on various techniques to quickly and efficiently remove them from a dangerous environment.

Over the course of two hours our team of volunteers reviewed methods of removing a victim from an elevated position on the second floor. Additionally each individual not only had the opportunity to be the victim but also the rescuer.

This evening training was conducted without SCBA and without smoke. Over the course of the next month each training will increase in the level of difficulty.

Training Officer Keen said "our goal this evening was to just get our team comfortable with techniques and the movement required to perform the task, moving forward we will simulate fire conditions".
