Training: Res-Q-Jack Struts

By East Brandywine Fire Company
September 16, 2020

For this weeks training we were joined by John Sileski (Product Specialist with MES) and Steve Miller (Sales Rep with MES) who were at Station 49 to give our members an in depth & hands on training on our new Res-Q-Jack strut system that we just placed into service.

Tonight's training focused on roof resting stabilization/raise and side resting stabilization utilizing our wood cribbing and the Res-Q-Jack Apex Struts that will be in service on Rescue 49.

These Apex Struts have a working load limit up to 12,500lbs which will allow our crews to safely stabilize or lift a wide variety of vehicles.

The first scenario crews worked on was the roof resting stabilization/raise. This would be used when a vehicle rolls over and ends up on its roof with a subject trapped either inside the vehicle or under the vehicle. Once the system is in place and stabilized crews can lift the vehicle if needed or begin to cut the vehicle to remove the occupants as the Res-Q-Jack system keeps the vehicle from moving.

The second scenario was a side resting stabilization where crews went over several different ways of stabilizing the vehicle with two struts, cribbing and in once scenario crews also utilized chains and Utility 49 to help stabilize the vehicle.

This was week 1 of 2 on our training with the Res-Q-Jack struts. Crews will get into more detailed applications in week 2 so make sure you check back to see the photos and story on week 2.

Special thanks again to John Sileski and Steve Miller on all of your help.
