By East Brandywine Fire Company
December 23, 2021

On Thursday December 23rd at 11:30pm the East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to 15 Freedom Blvd for a fire alarm. Assistant 49 made the response within minutes and was advised by Chester County 911 Center that they received a call from security who stated they had a smoke condition on the 4th floor in one of the condos. With that information Assistant 49 requested the assignment be upgraded to a building fire.

The upgrade added Engine 76, Ladder 41-1, Engine & Rescue 38, Engine & Rescue 35, Engine 6, Tower 45 and RIT 47. Battalion 49 arrived first and reported a 5 story assisted living facility with nothing showing with an audible alarm. Battalion 49 passed command on to Assistant 49 and began to make his way up to the 4th floor.

When Battalion 49 made it to the 4th floor he reported a smoke condition and an active fire in an oven in one of the condos. Engine 49-2 arrived and laid a supply line in from the main entrance to the front of the building and crews went to the 4th floor with high rise packs, tools and water cans.

Ladder 41-1 arrived and took position in front of the building and placed their aerial to the window of the fire room. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in the oven with a water can however they had smoke throughout the 4th floor.

Multiple fans were brought up to the 4th floor off of several different trucks and crews spent over an hour clearing the smoke from the building. Once all the smoke was cleared crews were able to clear the scene a short time later. In all companies were on scene for approx. 2 hours.
