Weekly Training "5-minute drill"

By East Brandywine Fire Company
February 16, 2022

Last evening the East Brandywine Fire Company got the opportunity to drill at a residence that was under construction in our first due. Crews worked on the 5-minute drill which focuses on the first 5 minutes of an incident from the time the first apparatus arrives on scene.

Utilizing Engine 49-2 and Ladder 49 the crews were "dispatched" to a house fire. Upon arrival the crew from the Engine focused on apparatus placement, stretching the proper attack line and making entry and searching for the seat of the fire. At the same time the Ladder company arrived and split their crew. One half would go inside the home and begin a primary search for any trapped victims while another crew would work on throwing ground ladders around the entire home and getting to the roof to begin ventilation. Obviously since this is a home under construction the hoses were not charged and no cutting or any other damage was done to the home. Crews got the opportunity to run through the drill several times. At one point crews had to quickly abandon the drill to respond to a reported house fire in East Fallowfield assisting Modena Fire Company, luckily the assignment was recalled a short time later as their was no fire. After clearing the drill site crews returned to station to clean the gear, tools and apparatus and discuss the drill.

18 members attended the drill. A big Thank you to Traditions of America for allowing us to utilize this home for our training.
