On Saturday afternoon just after 4:30pm, East Brandywine volunteers were dispatched to assist the Wagontown Fire Company on a reported chimney fire on Netherwood Dr in West Brandywine.
Ladder 49, Engine 49-2, Utility, Chief and QRS 49 all made the response with 16 members. Upon arrival on scene the crew from Ladder 49 and Engine 49-2 placed ground ladders at the back of the home and went to the roof to check the chimney while the Engine driver secured a water supply if needed. Reports were that smoke and flames were seen coming from the top.
While crews were on the roof they began to drop chains down the chimney to clear any creosote or other blockages while the crews from Engine 49-2 and Engine 35 cleaned out the firebox area and moved the debris to the outside. Crews were on scene for approx. 30 minutes before clearing. Luckily there was no extension to the house itself.
As a reminder please make sure you get your chimney cleaned and checked by a professional regularly especially if you use it frequently. |
