July 22, 2025

At 11:16 AM today (July 22nd, 2025), the East Brandywine Fire Company was dispatched to the 1200 block of Osborne Road in East Brandywine Township for a reported active propane leak from an underground 1,000-gallon propane tank.

The incident occurred when a construction company on-site accidentally struck the tank’s valve with a Bobcat machine, causing the valve to shear off and propane to begin leaking.

Due to the nature of the call, additional resources were immediately requested, bringing in Rescue 38 from Thorndale Fire Company, EMS from Minquas Fire Company, and the Chester County HazMat Team. The propane company was also notified and dispatched a crew to assist.

Upon arrival, Rescue 38 laid a supply line from the hydrant at Constitution Drive and Osborne Road to the scene, preparing to supply Engine 49-2 if needed. Engine 49-5 also connected to Engine 49-2 to ensure a continuous water supply was available.

An inch and three-quarter handline was stretched and charged as a precautionary measure, but fortunately, it was not needed during the operation.

By 12:05 PM, the leak was successfully clamped off and secured by the propane company with assistance from the Chester County HazMat Team. Fire personnel also checked nearby homes for any potential propane odor inside; none were found.

All units were able to clear the scene safely a short time later. No injuries were reported.
