On Saturday afternoon shortly after 3pm the box assignment was dispatched to Blakely Rd in East Brandywine for the reported house fire. Initial reports were of a car on fire inside of an attached garage with all occupants out of the house

As units were responding a firefighter arrived on scene and reported smoke showing from the garage. Deputy 38 (Thorndale) arrived and confirmed the report. Deputy 38 along with a police officer from East Brandywine were able to push the vehicle out of the garage before anything inside the garage caught fire.

Engines 49-2, 49-5, Ladder 49 and Rescue 49 made the response with 17 personnel along with Battalion 49 and Assistant 49. Battalion 49 arrived next and confirmed the vehicle was out of the garage and there was no extension to the residence. At that time the assignment was held to EBFC units only.

Due to the type of vehicle, the rear-end is completely closed with no trunk or access. Using thermal imagers the crews could see hot spots still inside the back of the car and worked to open up to wet it down. Unfortunately that meant tearing out part of the interior as well as using hand tools and a battery operated spreader to pull apart the rear end exposing the area around the gas tank that was on fire. Once it was all opened up the crew was able to fully extinguish the fire and all units cleared a short time later.
