June 17, 2022

Friday evening at 5:49pm, the East Brandywine Fire Company along with MICU 93 from Tower Direct were dispatched to the 1100blk of Horseshoe Pike in front of the Wright Agency for a vehicle accident. Within one minute the call was upgraded to with entrapment which added an additional ambulance from Westwood.

Assistant 49 arrived on location first and confirmed a two vehicle accident head-on with the vehicles completely blocking both lanes of 322. He also confirmed one subject trapped in a sedan and requested Fire Police to close 322 between Corner Ketch and Hopewell.

Rescue 49, Ladder 49, QRS 49, Utility 49, Chief, Assistant and Deputy 49 all made the response.

Rescue 49 arrived and immediately began to deploy the Holmatro rescue tools and were given the order to begin removing all four doors and the roof of the vehicle to allow safe access for EMS to the patient. Ladder 49's crew arrived and also assisted with extrication utilizing the battery operated rescue tools off of the Ladder truck. Both the Rescue and Ladder have their own compliment of extrication tools which allows the crews to work much quicker.

At the 11 minute mark all four doors plus the roof had been removed and the patient was extricated from the vehicle and turned over to EMS.

While operating at the scene, Utility 49 had 322 & Corner Ketch closed while Traffic 33 from Honey Brook had 322 & Hopewell closed.

Due to the severity of the crash the PA State Police CARS (Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Specialist) unit was called to the scene by East Brandywine Police to investigate the accident. The roadway remained closed during this time and was reopened just after midnight.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the drivers involved in this accident.
