By East Brandywine Fire Company
July 16, 2022

On Saturday afternoon just before 1:30pm EBFC volunteers were dispatched on the box alarm to the 1500 block of Winfield Dr in West Bradford for a house fire. Initial reports were of a lawn tractor that had exploded in the garage and it was now on fire.

Immediately after dispatch a large column of smoke could be seen from several miles away. Chief 39 immediately requested a 1st Alarm Tanker Task Force due to the lack of hydrants in the area. The fill site was set up at West Bradford Elementary School.

Chief 38 arrived on location first and reported a 1 1/2 story single family dwelling with fire through the roof of an attached garage. Engine 38 arrived next and stretched a 2 1/2 inch line and started to make a knock on the fire in the garage area. A second 1 3/4 handline was stretched and taken into the front door to check for exposures to the main living area of the home.

Ladder 49 arrived and crews placed multiple ground ladders around the residence while other members of the crew went to the roof to begin opening up. As additional members arrived on Rescue 49, Engine 49-5, Utility and QRS 49 they assisted with theses tasks as well as fire suppression and overhaul in the garage area. Engine 49-5 also assisted with supplying water to the scene.

The fire was placed under control at 1:53pm and crews were clear a short time later.

18 members from EBFC made the response
