February 23, 2020

On Sunday night at 19:46hrs as members were finally getting to relax after two working fires earlier in the day the pagers went off yet again for another house fire, this time in South Coatesville on the 700blk of S First Ave.

Due on the initial assignment were Modena, Coatesville, Westwood, VA Hospital FD, Keystone Valley and East Brandywine Fire Company. Ladder 41-1 and Engine 43 who were already out on a call in the City responded immediately. Battalion 37 also responded immediately and was advised by the County 911 Center they were receiving multiple calls. Due to that he immediately asked for the working fire dispatch.

Battalion 37 arrived a short time later and reported he had two residences well off and requested a 2nd alarm at that time. Ladder 41-1, Engine 43 arrived next and began to go into service on both structures. It was initially thought that their was entrapment in one of the residences but that was quickly confirmed to be negative entrapment.

Ladder 49, Engine 49-1 made the response as the RIT. A short time later command requested the full company response from East Brandywine Fire Company bringing Engine 49-2 and Utility 49 to the scene as well.

Crews from EBFC on arrival set up RIT in front of the residences and were prepared to go into service in the case of any firefighter injuries or problems inside the residence. Not long after arrival the RIT team was broken down and put into service to assist with fire attack as the buildings had been evacuated due to the amount of fire.

Members from 49 helped man several handlines around the buildings while the companies were exterior. Once the fire was under control crews remained on scene for several hours still flowing water trying to make sure all the hot spots were extinguished.

Crews from 49 were on scene for over 4 1/2 hours with a total of 25 members.

We would like to send our thoughts and prayers out to all the families that were affected by the fire.
