EAST BRANDYWINE VOLUNTEERS RESPOND TO RESIDENTIAL RESCUE

By East Brandywine Fire Company
November 4, 2026

This afternoon, East Brandywine Fire Company volunteers, along with Minquas EMS, were dispatched to a residence in East Brandywine Township for a residential rescue.

Initial reports indicated that a resident was clearing leaves from their deck when a section of the decking broke, causing one of their legs to fall through an opening and become trapped up to their thigh. The resident was unable to free themselves and had reportedly been stuck for at least an hour and a half.

QRS 49 and Rescue 49 responded to the scene. Upon arrival, members assessed the situation and utilized a reciprocating saw (Sawzall) to carefully remove a section of the deck, allowing crews to safely free the resident and assist them into a chair.

Minquas EMS evaluated the patient, who thankfully did not appear to have suffered any serious injuries.

🍂 **BUT OUR VOLUNTEERS WEREN'T QUITE FINISHED YET!**

After getting the resident safely out of their predicament, our members decided to finish blowing leaves off their deck and driveway.
Before clearing the scene, members grabbed our battery-operated leaf blower and spent a few extra minutes blowing the leaves off the deck and driveway so the resident wouldn't have to worry about finishing the chore.

While our primary mission is responding to emergencies and protecting lives and property, sometimes serving our community means going a little beyond the emergency itself.

Whether it's rescuing someone from a dangerous situation or simply helping finish a chore they couldn't complete, our volunteers are always proud to lend a helping hand.

After all, we couldn't leave the resident stuck with an unfinished job after getting them unstuck from the deck!

Neighbors helping neighbors. That's what being a volunteer is all about!
