A busy weekend for Fire Police

By Fire Police Lieutenant James Mostyn
July 4, 2011

The weekend was fully booked for East Brandywine's fire police. Five fire police officers made the 45 minute trip south with the Traffic Unit and Utility to Nottingham Park in Oxford to assist with traffic control at the Freedom Fest fireworks. An estimated 10,000 people attended the event. Fire Police were stationed at the event from 3pm until 12am before returning to East Brandywine.
Minutes after returning, the fire company was alerted for a car accident. Fire Police were still at the station and responded the Traffic Unit immediately. At the request of the police, Rt 82 was shut down and remained closed from 1am until 6:30am.
On Sunday, two officers took the traffic unit down to Coatesville from 11:30am until 3pm to assist with closing off a section of Rt 82 for a Bike race. After what was already a busy weekend, on Monday seven Fire Police officers once again headed out to represent Station 49, going to Downingtown at 7am to assist with Good Neighbor Day. Fire police closed numerous intersections. Traffic 49 was posted at the intersection of Rt. 322 and Lloyd Avenue to divert traffic around town. The Traffic Unit returned to East Brandywine around noon.
Thank you to all the fire police who gave up their holiday weekend to participate in the weekend's activities.
