March 17, 2012

On Saturday March 17, 2012, firefighters from East Brandywine Fire Company and Glen Moore Fire Company participated in their first live fire training of the year.

This joint training session is part of an on-going training series, which fosters collaboration and teamwork between the companies and helps move us closer to the goal of being one Department.

Nearly 30 firefighters participated in the training in what were nearly ideal weather conditions.

Over the course of the day multiple scenarios involving Engine Company and Truck Company operations were undertaken.

In addition to Communication and Safety some of the areas of focus were as follows:

Apparatus Placement
Water Supply – Forward and Reverse Lays
Deployment of an Attack Line and Back-up Line
Hose line Advancement and Management
Fire Suppression
Hydraulic Ventilation
Vertical Ventilation
Ground Ladder Placement
Use of Rotary and Chain Saws
Incident Command

The Chief Officers of both companies would like to thank all of the men and women who took time out of their weekend to continue to enhance their firefighting skills. The day was an overwhelming success.

Additionally the Officers would like to thank the stokers Captain 6 Kevin Miller, Captain 47 Patrick Boyle, as well as the West Chester Fire Department for use of the Fire Training Facility.

Lastly special thanks to Honey Brook Fire Company for providing standby coverage for both companies during the training session.
