| During a recent ISO evaluation the Field Representative was asked by the Chief "what do you believe our number one strength is as Company?", the Field Representatives response, "training".
Although East Brandywine Fire Company has always been committed to training, particular emphasis has been placed on it in 2014 and so far the results have been impressive. Some milestones that have been achieved include:
Training Officer role created - At the start of the year FF Chris Keen accepted this newly created position and has excelled in the role.
Renewal of our 75% National Professional Qualifications Standards through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner
Development of a quarterly training calendar, that focuses predominantly on Fire Suppression, Water Supply, and Vehicle Rescue. Training classes are conducted every Wednesday evening and on weekend day a month. Average attendance at these trainings have been 25 people.
Training Pad completed - It has been a priority to develop an area where training can occur routinely and has props and materials available for simulations.
Multiple Props built or purchased - 2 roof props (peaked and flat) have been built and a forcible entry simulator has been purchased. More props are currently in the process of being secured.
With all the progress and energy surrounding training, Captain Vince D'Amico coined the term "T3" - Triple Threat Training, and its been embraced by the crew.
According to Fire Chief Edwards "I'm can't be more proud of Chris and the Officers, they have taken our training program to a new level". Edwards also added "some may scoff at the creation of a training logo, however if it creates continued enthusiasm and energy and emphasizes training, give me 20 more logos". |
